Unity In Harlem has been around
for more than forty years. Its first location was
on 125th Street and the group, then called the Unity Universal
Center, was led by Flash Washington. The group’s next minister was Mary
Alice Brown and she was followed by Bea Copeland.
In March of 2002, the late Mary Hendrix-Jones, a committed
truth student and community activist, invited a handful
of like-minded people to meet in her home.
Soon the group, renamed Unity In Harlem, needed more space.
They moved to 132nd Street, the American Legion Post, where
they remained until March 2004 when the group re-located
to the Ross Carnegie Piano Studio, its present home.
